5 Things You Can Do to Improve Your Instagram Profile
Hello everyone! Marshall here to talk about some easy things you can do to see more results out of your Instagram posting efforts. We all know how daunting posting every day can be, especially when we see little to no interaction on posts, see followers coming in but also leaving and wonder if we’re even grabbing the attention of people who need to see it! So without any more, here are 5 easy things you can do to improve your social media presence.
1. Be aware of your hashtags.
Hashtags are so important when it comes to reaching your audience. Hashtags allow you to not only broaden your reach when posting places, but also let you be specific in who you want to reach. For example, if I post a photo with no hashtags at all, the only people who see it are going to be those who come across my feed. This does nothing to bring more people into my feed, it just targets those who are already following me, or find my feed from some outside source.
If i throw a hashtag on my picture of say, a coffee product I sell that says “#FairTradeCoffee”, now the hundreds of thousands of people who sort on instagram by that hashtag can see my post directly in that feed, and if they’re looking in that feed, they have an interest in fair trade coffee! I’m reaching out to people who have an interest in the product that I sell. Isn’t that what we all aim for? Instagram lets you put out 30 hashtags per post, so use them wisely and make use of every one!
2. Emojis Emojis Emojis!
We’re serious about this one! Whether you use them personally or not, emojis are a huge part of today’s internet culture. In a world where people spend a fraction of a second looking at posts before they decide whether or not to devote more attention to it or scroll right by, emojis are a quick way to call attention to the description of your photo. A good and relevant description draws attention back to the photo, leaving your audience engaged for a longer amount of time. Now, don’t go overboard and use 10 different emojis on a post! A single emoji or two will do just fine!
Bonus tip: One of the easiest ways you can get more engagement on your posts is ask your audience a question they can answer in the comments in the description of the photo! Try it out!
3. Color coordinate and have a theme.
A good theme on an Instagram profile is miles more attractive than the rest. Look at the above photo. This person has a very minimalistic approach when thinking about color for his theme (mostly black and white), but regardless it is consistent which is what matters. His consistent theme makes for a very pleasing account to look at, even if you have no idea what he’s selling or what his feed is about! It’s a great way to get enough interest in your viewers/followers to make yourself memorable.
4. Use geotags!
This one is super important for local discovery. Using geotags in your story and in your photos is HUGE if you want to garner more local interest in your business, since it shows your stuff directly to those in your area. Not much more to say about this one!
5. Rotate the link in your Instagram bio, and make use of the story feature!
That bio in your instagram is not just there to talk about you! It’s a huge advertisement space to get them out of your instagram and on to your website! However the biggest trap I see people fall in is a stagnant bio. They throw their landing page link in there and never touch it again. Whether you have 50 followers or 50,000, that space can be used to rotate a link to your most recent blog posts, sale pages, new content etc. Change it up every week!
Bonus Tip: Use the story feature of instagram to slap a photo in your story with a phrase like “New blog post, check the link in the bio!” to call attention to your bio and make the two work hand in hand!
